For 2006,
teacher Mark Dunn and his 5th grade class from Cypress
Creek Elementary school received the first annual Ruskin History
Preservation Award from the Ruskin Historical Society. This was in
part for their work in creating a display for last year’s Seafood
and Arts festival, as well as for
contributing articles to RuskinHIstory.org
They received the
Award at Camp Bayou during of a natural history learning program
they were participating in there. They took the award back on the
bus with them to their school. They get to keep the award for a
year, after which it will be awarded to next year’s winner. Sort of
like the Stanley Cup of Ruskin History. The award and a student
display was shown in the Heritage Tent at this year’s Tomato and
Heritage Festival.
