For 2006, teacher Mark Dunn and his 5^th grade class from Cypress Creek Elementary school received the first annual Ruskin History Preservation Award from the Ruskin Historical Society. This was in part for their work in creating a display for last year’s Seafood and Arts festival, as well as for contributing articles to RuskinHIstory.org

 They received the Award at Camp Bayou during of a natural history learning program they were participating in there. They took the award back on the bus with them to their school. They get to keep the award for a year, after which it will be awarded to next year’s winner. Sort of like the Stanley Cup of Ruskin History. The award and a student display was shown in the Heritage Tent at this year’s Tomato and Heritage Festival.
