For 2007,
teacher Carol Dunn and her 5th grade class from Cypress
Creek Elementary school received the second annual Ruskin History
Preservation Award from the Ruskin Historical Society. This was in
part for their work in learning about and recreating native crafts,
a timeline of Ruskin history creating, displays for last year’s
Seafood & Arts festival, the opening of the SouthShore Regional
Library and for participating in hands-on demonstrations at Camp
Bayou's open house

They received the
Award at Cypress Creek Elementary shortly after the Ruskin Heritage
Street Fest, May 4, 2007. They get to keep the award for a
year, after which it will be awarded to next year’s winner. Sort of
like the Stanley Cup of Ruskin History. The award and display can be
been in the library of the Cypress Creek Elementary school in
Ruskin.
